Residential Switchboard Upgrade

The switchboard upgrade service includes the removal of the old switchboard, a new switchboard/distribution board to be installed, and all main earth bars, neutral bars, bus bars, RCD, MCB and RCBO to be replaced, installed, and tested.

Typical switchboard upgrade prices tend to vary based on things such as the old board location relative to the new location and whether or not the old board and existing wiring will be compatible with the homes electrical requirements.  We offer free on-site checks and obligation-free quotes for the switchboard replacement works in order to analyse these potential issues and provide an accurate quote.

Work Scope

. Removal and disposal of the old switchboard (no rubbish to worry about)

. Installation of a new compliant switchboard in the preferred location

. If the location changes then new feed cables will need to be run for those cables that  become to short to reach the new location. (if not possible cables will be joined and extended)

. Safety Upgrade: New switchgear will be installed including RCCD's, MCB's, the main circuit breaker and RCBO's where necessary to ensure the new board meets the ASNZS/3000 regulations.

. Testing and Commissioning: Mandatory safety testing of the new cabling and switchgear.

Certification: Providing a Certificate of Compliance (COC) upon completion.

Terms and Conditions

. Wall repairs: Modern switchboards are typically of a different size to those they replace. This means that more often than not the wall will need some patch and paint work done to cover any damage to the wall. (This is not included in our service)

. Mains Alteration: If the old switchboard also contains the meter box then it is likely that the incoming mains will have to be altered. This changes the work from general to high risk. This in turn means that an inspector will need to be called to sign off the mains before livening. (The inspector fee is typically $275)

. Existing wiring faults: When the board is upgraded minor wiring faults and cable degradation is more likely to be exposed as the circuit protection improves. This may lead to RCCD trips. If this occurs the particular circuit that is creating the fault may not be livened until the fault is cleared.
